The Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the spring of 2010 resulted in millions of barrels of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico, with unknown environmental consequences. Dr. Mason and colleagues investigated the impact of oil deposition on microbial communities in surface sediments collected at 64 sites.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is now accepting intern applications for the fall term. The positions potentially will qualify for 3-6 hours of course credit. Upplerclassmen and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Applications accepted until Friday, July 18, 2014.
Congratulations to Daphne DeLoren, who graduated from the FSU Meteorology program in June, 2014, on joining the WNEM-TV5 weather team in Michigan. Before joining the WNEM-TV5 team, Daphne interned at CNN Turk, in Istanbul, Turkey. She was also a team leader and on-air forecaster for the student run live weather show ‘4FSU Weather.’

To be elected as a Fellow, a scientist must have distinguished themselves in meteoritics or in a closely allied field. No more than 1% of the membership may be elected every two years.
