EOAS Weathercasting Students Win IBM Weather Graphics Challenge for Fall 2021

A team of EOAS weathercasting students lead by Robert Szot has won IBM’s Max University Challenge for Fall 2021. This weather graphics competition is open to any university using IBM’s Max weather graphics system, which is used by many commercial TV stations to prepare the graphics for their TV weathercasts. FSU students use the IBM Max systemto prepare graphics for their “FSU Weather” TV show which they broadcast live weeknights at 6:00-6:30 PM Eastern Time over local Comcast cable channel 4 and stream over YouTube.com/fsuweather. In Fall 2021, the team consisted of Lorenz Torres-Leschnik, Tyler Sherrod, Melissa Geiger, Jessica Kirk, Josh Green, and Riley Winch.

FSU weathercasting students have won this contest in three of the last four semesters.

UPDATE: Robert Szot and Melissa Geiger have won again for Spring 2022, marking victories in four of the last five semesters.
