Dr. Mainak Mookherjee Receives Fulbright-Nehru Award for 2024-2025

With the Fulbright-Nehru Award 2024-2025 to India, Dr. Mookherjee intends to examine whether crustal rocks from Himalaya and Indian subcontinent contain trace quantities of water. This will help Earth Scientists to gain insight into the volatile cycling in convergent tectonic settings. Dr. Mookherjee’s primary research interest lies in understanding the processes that occur in the Earth’s interior. Dr. Mookherjee uses a combination of experimental methods and complementary numerical simulations to understand the cycling/exchange of volatiles such as hydrogen/water and carbon dioxide between the Earth’s exosphere and the interior.

Fulbright-Nehru Awards enable the most outstanding students, academics and professionals in India and the U.S. to study, research and teach in the host country. Indian scholars are selected through a rigorous application and interview process. Once selected, awardees receive support navigating the visa processing and securing health insurance, as well as a comprehensive pre-departure orientation.
