On November 19, Arts and Sciences Dean Sam Huckaba hosted the semi-annual Chairs and Directors Dinner honoring outgoing College Department Chairs and Directors. As with prior dinners, the Dean summarized the career highlights of each of the outgoing Department Chairs and Directors. For former EOAS Chair and Professor Robert Hart, Dean Huckaba noted his numerous prestigious awards from multiple organizations inside and outside FSU, his 22-year history of continuous external funding from a diverse range of private, state and federal sources including NSF, NASA, and NOAA, and ended the summary by emphasizing the unusually aggressive mentoring record of Hart. Over those 22 years, Hart has been a member of at least 170 Meteorology graduate student committees inside and outside FSU, not including those of his own 13 Ph.D. students and dozens of his own M.S. students at FSU. This total of over 200 mentored graduate students amounts to over 75% of the total number of FSU Meteorology graduate students since his arrival in late 2003.
In attendance were Professor Jeremy Owens, former EOAS Associate Chair, and COAPS Director and Distinguished Professor Eric Chassignet, along with most current Department Chairs or their Associate Chair delegates.
A picture of all in attendance with Sheryl Grossman, Assistant to Dean Huckaba, was taken (also attached here) at the end of the event along with a tribute to her from Dean Huckaba for her nearly 25 years of dedicated service to several College of Arts and Sciences Deans and dozens of Department Chairs.
