On the afternoon of May 17, the Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science (EOAS) at Florida State University gathered for a lively department picnic at the FSU Reservation lakefront. Faculty, staff, students, postdoctoral researchers, and family members came together from noon to 4 p.m. for an afternoon of food, games, conversation, and outdoor fun.
The event highlighted the strong sense of community within EOAS, bringing together people from across the department in a relaxed setting outside the classroom, laboratory, and office. Attendees enjoyed sunny weather along the lake while reconnecting with colleagues and meeting family members and new students.
The Stukel BBQ Shop grilled hamburgers for attendees throughout the afternoon. Picnic tables under the pavilion quickly filled with conversations, laughter, and shared meals as members of the department enjoyed time together.
People played outdoor games, while children and families took advantage of the lakefront setting to swim and play in the water. The gathering reflected the welcoming and collaborative culture that defines the EOAS community.
The picnic also offered an opportunity to celebrate the conclusion of the academic year and recognize the friendships and collaborations that make the department vibrant and supportive. Events like these help strengthen connections across research groups and generations of the EOAS family.
EOAS thanks everyone who attended and helped make the picnic a success, especially Dr. Stukel for serving as grill master and all who contributed food, games, and activities.
