Our faculty are committed to academic and professional excellence that emphasize both fundamental and interdisciplinary study. We are committed to delivering the very finest undergraduate Earth science education.
Our undergraduates are engaged in academics, research and social events. We offer ample opportunities for field experiences, and take great pride in our efforts to develop an active, supportive student community. Please browse our site and let us know if you have questions or would like to arrange a visit (contact program advisor). We’re looking forward to seeing you on campus and in the department!
The department encourages all majors to explore opportunities with the faculty and graduate students on research projects. FSU has programs such as the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) in place to assist the students to find a fit to conduct research and gain hands-on experience in the lab and field. EOAS has a long history of student field research, laboratory internships and credited directed individual studies in laboratories on campus, research vessels, field camps. If interested in gaining research experience contact your teaching instructors about possible opportunities.
For those interested, there are several EOAS departmental societies (Florida State University Geological Society, Thalassic Society, Theta Pi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Chi Epsilon Pi and North Florida Chapter of the American Meteorological Society) for undergraduates and graduates that enhance the FSU experience and future networking.
